A new year for new reads

Well, we made it—2020 is officially the past. And congratulations are clearly in order! (Seriously.)

In other news, Wing Builder is staying on pace, and I’m planning an April release. More details soon—including a cover reveal and preorders starting next month! So stay tuned!

For those who want to know a little more: I’m halfway through my big edit. This is the point where the story’s details rise into focus and the prose is shaped towards its ultimate form. Once this edit is complete, it’s only be a matter of running the manuscript back and forth with my editor and… voila, a new Mel Braxton book will be released!

(I wish it was as easy as writing that sentence.)

Anyhow, take care as the trials of 2021 begin, I can’t wait to return with more updates.

Fall leaves, cozy reads, and a new Wing Builder preview

Happy fall and big news! I’ve just finished the first draft of Wing Builder, and to celebrate, I’m sharing a new preview today at the bottom of this message!

The rains have started here and my burrowing-instinct has entered over-drive, desperate to make my home a little extra cozy. It’s been a great environment for the last stretch of Wing Builder’s first draft.

It’s been amazing to see this draft come together. This setting is breathtaking, these characters are complex with rich relationships, and the plot—oh, is it exciting.

There remains plenty of editing between now and publication—my first drafts can be pretty messy—but completing the first write-through is still a critical point in development. I’m already excited for the day I’ll share this story with you.

Hope you enjoy the blurb and wishing you cozy days of reading,
Mel Braxton

He has his wings, she needs to build hers.

Wren was a determined student with the 5-year plan to prove it. Silver-eyed and a little bit different, growing up hadn’t been easy, but now her plans are finally coming to fruition. Everything was going perfectly… Until the assassin attacked.

Ezal was head guard and had reached the end of his goals. Because of his gray-wings, evidence of Letharia’s Blight, it was the most he hoped to become. His fascination with Earthan science would never be more than a peculiarity.

When an assassin attacks Wren, Ezal saves her. He returns her to Letharia, the homeworld she didn’t know she had. Due to the mysterious deaths of her birth parents, she is now heir to her house and, despite her winglessness, must be established as Lady Bani.

But power comes with a cost. Wren must marry—and quickly—for she needs a winged spouse to carry her in the upcoming rite. Her pedigreed suitors are eager, but none have caught her eye—not the way gray-winged Ezal has.

As the assassination attempts continue, Ezal and Wren race against time. They must uncover the truth of their attackers—and the value of their love—before making decisions they’ll both regret.

Wing Builder is a sci-fantasy romance. Expect aerial world-building and a swoon-worthy romance torn by political agendas. This story features a competition between suitors, beautiful dresses, an unhealthy obsession with string theory, and so many feathers. Coming April 2021.

Sparkly Summer Reading

One of my favorite things about summer is reading on the patio. I might get a little hot and sweaty, but there is something undeniably magical about it. Despite all the unusual circumstances, I believe we can all find a little magic this summer.

It’s been a busy first half of 2020 with the dual releases of The Wild Mermaid and A Bigfoot’s Quest. But totally worth it. Now they’re here, ready to capture your imagination.

As for me, it’s time for me to look forward. There are two manuscripts I’m prioritizing: Wing Builder and A Bigfoot’s Destiny. I’m pretty thrilled to be sharing early blurbs for these with you today. Since these are still taking shape, I’ll give more concrete updates in my fall update.

That’s about it for me. It’s been fun to publish two novels in 2020, but now it’s time for me to lay a little lower and dig into first-drafts again. Stay safe and take care!

Happy reading,

Mel Braxton

P.S. Remember that you can support indie authors by writing reviews. They are super helpful in guiding new readers towards our books. HUGE thank you to those who review already!

Spring 2020 update: stay home and read?

Hey readers,

I’m writing this with the hope that you’re okay during these dynamic times. I’m incredibly blessed that my publishing has stayed on schedule and here to tell you that The Wild Mermaid has been released.

That’s right. The Wild Mermaid is here! I love this story so much, and if I begin talking about why, then I’ll be rambling here for hours and I’m pretty sure nobody wants that… So I’m just going to say: I hope this narrative is entertaining (it is an awesome Atlantean adventure) and maybe even offers perspective on fighting for hope.

And in other news, editing for A Bigfoot’s Quest has begun! I’m pretty sure it’ll be published within two months. So yeah, get ready for some more Alice.

And those are the big updates from me. Take care, okay?

With love,
Mel Braxton

Cora was thrilled. Today she would reach Atlantis, and after a long migration she was eager to finish the journey.

But when the Queen appoints Cora as the next soloist, she must take an unusual medication called physic. As the drug reshapes her mind, Cora discovers Atlantis to be far more sinister than her daydreams.

To escape, Cora must navigate the Queen’s palace. Along the way, she is befriended and betrayed. She learns that myths can be lies and tragedies often leave scars.

It’s an adventure that’ll ultimately transform her into The Wild Mermaid.
